Job Summary
The Officer, Inventory & IT Support will be responsible for maintaining accurate records of the University’s IT and general assets, ensuring proper allocation and tracking throughout their lifecycle. The role will also provide responsive first-line IT support and customer service to staff, students and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date register of all IT and general assets, recording complete details before items are issued.
- Receive and inspect deliveries, keep the store organised and secure, and retain supporting documentation for audit purposes.
- Fulfil equipment and resource requests in line with university policies, issuing assets against signed forms linked to accountable custodians.
- Monitor stock levels and initiate timely reorders.
- Coordinate asset transfers between locations and manage the return and recovery of equipment.
- Ensure asset allocation remains fair, transparent and properly documented.
- Serve as the first point of contact for IT-related issues, logging requests in the ticketing system and providing Tier 1 troubleshooting.
- Set up and maintain devices, user accounts and password resets.
- Escalate complex technical issues to the appropriate IT specialists.
- Maintain a knowledge base and follow up on every support ticket through to confirmed resolution.
- Provide courteous and professional technical support across all channels.
- Explain technical matters clearly to users and respond promptly to support requests.
- Handle complaints professionally, act on user feedback and maintain the confidentiality of information.
- Comply with university policies and contribute to improvements in processes and documentation.
- Prepare timely and accurate inventory and IT support reports.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining accurate records and using inventory, asset or stock-management systems.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting common hardware, software and network issues.
- Knowledge of inventory and stock-control principles, including receiving, issuing, reorder levels and stocktaking.
- Proficiency in inventory or asset management systems and spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel for record keeping, reconciliation and reporting.
- Basic IT support skills covering Windows/macOS, office applications, email, printers and basic networking, including Wi-Fi and LAN.
- Ability to install, configure and maintain computer hardware, peripherals and software.
- Strong customer service orientation and communication skills.
- High level of personal and professional integrity.
