Job Role Description

The Electrical Specialist serves as the subject matter expert for electrical processes, procedures, technical matters, and electrical equipment. The role provides support and guidance for complex electrical troubleshooting, participates in constructability and maintenance design reviews, and supports engineering activities for routine maintenance, turnarounds, and new projects.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) requirements relating to electrical equipment, demonstrate advanced maintenance expertise, collaborate effectively across business lines, and mentor colleagues while sharing technical knowledge throughout the organisation.

Job Responsibilities

As an Electrical Specialist, you will:

  • Implement maintenance design philosophies for electrical equipment.
  • Provide technical support and coordination across business lines.
  • Support the coordination of cost management and productivity improvement initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical issues and provide operational support.
  • Provide technical support and input into the development and delivery of training programmes.
  • Share best practices and provide technical feedback.
  • Develop personal technical expertise and transfer knowledge to others.
  • Serve as a mentor and provide electrical expertise across the wider organisation.

Skills and Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • A minimum of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering, City & Guilds Level 4 in Electrical, or an equivalent qualification obtained through an oil and gas industry apprenticeship programme.

A Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Engineering or related sciences without an HND is acceptable only if the candidate has an established and verifiable minimum of five years’ experience working as an electrical technician in the oil and gas industry.

Please note: This is strictly a technician role.

Applicants must also:

  • Have a minimum of 5 years’ relevant electrical technician experience.
  • Be a Nigerian citizen.
  • Have completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and possess either an NYSC Discharge Certificate or an Exemption Letter.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Good understanding of workplace hazards and risk identification.
  • Strong analytical skills and courage of conviction.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across operations and maintenance teams.

Technical experience should include:

  1. Technical Knowledge and Equipment Operation
    • Previous FPSO experience is preferred.
  2. Instrumentation, Mechanical and Hands-on Skills
    • Ability to perform basic repairs, routine maintenance, and equipment adjustments.
    • Ability to read and interpret transmitters, sensors, gauges, and control valves.
    • Familiarity with Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems and Fire & Gas (F&G) systems and their role in process safety.
  3. Work Management Systems
    • Good understanding of Work Management Practices.
    • Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), particularly SAP, for raising notifications, managing work orders, and searching for materials.
  4. Electrical Systems Expertise
    • Good understanding and interpretation of Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control Logic Diagrams.
    • Technical knowledge of:
      • High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) power distribution and control networks.
      • HV and LV motor drives and alternators.
      • Inverters.
      • High-voltage cells.
      • Variable speed drives.
      • Lighting networks.
      • Switchgear.
      • Electrical breakers.
      • Electrical protection devices.
  5. Attention to Detail
    • Ability to monitor equipment performance and detect abnormalities.
    • Ability to determine appropriate corrective actions.
    • Ability to maintain accurate maintenance logs and reports.
    • Ability to identify workplace hazards and implement appropriate control and mitigation measures.
