The Consulate General serves as the Mission’s representative to the people of southern Nigeria, strengthening diplomatic relations and advancing cooperation between the United States and Nigeria through consular, economic, political, and public diplomacy activities.

The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the Protocol Assistant position in the Executive Office.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the chief protocol staff and staff assistant to the Principal Officer.
- Maintain relationships with Nigerian government officials, traditional rulers, diplomatic missions, and private sector stakeholders.
- Coordinate official meetings, events, and activities for the Principal Officer, visiting U.S. officials, and senior Mission staff.
- Liaise with relevant Mission offices to coordinate logistics for official engagements.
- Prepare briefing materials and other official documents as required.
Requirements
Education
- University Degree in English, International Relations, Business, Communications, or a related field.
- NYSC Certificate, Exemption, or Exclusion Certificate is required.
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience dealing with the public in a service-oriented environment.
Knowledge
- Thorough knowledge of Nigeria, including its transportation systems, major sites, and hotels.
- Sound understanding of Nigeria’s geography, culture, political environment, and economy.
- Good knowledge of U.S. Government practices and policies.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage officials at all levels.
- Ability to interpret official documents and regulations.
- Strong computer proficiency and ability to use relevant software.
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to prepare clear, concise, and grammatically accurate documents.
Salary
- USD $25,357 per year.
