ALIMA is recruiting suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Finance Coordinator – Nigeria (M/F). The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership for the finance department, ensuring effective financial management, accurate accounting, budget monitoring, donor compliance, and proper stewardship of ALIMA’s financial resources across its Nigeria mission.

ALIMA (The Alliance for International Medical Action) has been operating in Nigeria since 2016 as part of its regional response to health and nutrition emergencies. The organisation delivers life-saving healthcare and nutrition services across Borno, Yobe, Katsina, and Ondo States, focusing on maternal and child health, severe acute malnutrition (SAM), epidemic response, and humanitarian assistance.
Its programmes support internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities through outpatient and inpatient healthcare, nutrition services, climate-sensitive interventions, and research into diseases such as Lassa fever. Working closely with government institutions and international partners, ALIMA continues to strengthen access to quality healthcare while responding to humanitarian crises across Nigeria.
Job Summary
The Finance Coordinator serves as the safeguarding authority for the finance department and is responsible for defining and implementing the department’s strategic direction in support of operational objectives.
The role oversees the proper management of ALIMA’s financial resources, ensures accurate accounting practices, monitors mission budgets, facilitates financial planning and treasury security, and ensures timely financial reporting to headquarters and donors in compliance with organisational and donor regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the definition of the mission’s financial strategy alongside the Coordination Team.
- Apply, reinforce, and supervise compliance with ALIMA financial procedures and management tools.
- Supervise and ensure accurate accounting for the mission using SAGA software with the support of the Deputy Finance Coordinator.
- Define and oversee treasury management procedures to safeguard organisational resources.
- Provide management and headquarters with clear budget visibility, financial forecasts, and risk analysis.
- Monitor mission budgets and consolidate expenditure planning with project and coordination teams.
- Develop and monitor the ALIMA Nigeria mission budget and allocation tables.
- Prepare donor budget proposals and financial reports in accordance with donor and ALIMA requirements.
- Recruit, manage, and supervise the mission finance team.
- Implement fraud and corruption prevention measures and strengthen internal control systems.
- Alert headquarters to financial risks affecting mission resources.
- Plan and coordinate audit preparations.
- Identify training needs and support the training of accounting assistants and base administrators in accounting procedures, SAGA software, and cash management.
- Supervise the Deputy Finance Coordinator and provide ongoing capacity building.

Level 3
The role involves responsibility for HR processes and may require field visits involving contact with children and vulnerable adults. A criminal record check or certificate of good conduct will be required. Where this cannot be provided, a declaration of honour may be accepted.
Requirements
- University degree in Finance, Administration, Human Resources, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in finance management.
- At least 1 year of experience in a similar position.
- Previous experience with an international medical NGO is an added advantage.
- Strong team management and supervisory skills.
- Knowledge of donor regulations and financial reporting requirements.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Knowledge of SAGA finance software is an advantage.
