About the Role
Paystack is seeking a Senior Product Manager to own payment processing across the company. The successful candidate will be responsible for expanding and improving the payment channels and methods available to merchants and their customers, while strengthening the reliability and performance of the processing infrastructure.
The role will involve managing product relationships with banks, card schemes, processors and other payment partners, as well as working closely with engineering, data, commercial and market teams across Paystack’s operating markets.

Responsibilities
- Own the product strategy and roadmap for payment processing at Paystack, covering channels, partner rails and the reliability of the processing stack.
- Expand and improve payment methods and channels available to merchants, including cards, bank transfers and direct debit.
- Drive improvements in transaction success rates and authorisation performance across supported channels.
- Own product relationships with banks, card schemes, processors and other payment partners.
- Work with partners to improve connectivity, performance and payment coverage.
- Assess and prioritise new partner integrations and determine where and why Paystack should establish new connections.
- Hold partners accountable for performance and work with them to resolve issues that cause transaction failures.
- Own the reliability and uptime of the processing stack and drive initiatives that maintain performance as transaction volumes grow.
- Reduce transaction failures and improve resilience through retries, failover and effective handling of partner downtime.
- Optimise transaction latency and throughput to ensure fast and dependable processing at scale.
- Analyse transaction data to identify where payments fail, slow down or drop off by channel and partner.
- Translate data insights into product roadmap priorities.
- Define key processing metrics, including success rate, authorisation rate, latency and uptime.
- Hold internal teams and external partners accountable to agreed performance standards.
- Translate merchant and market needs into clear product requirements for channel and partner initiatives.
- Make trade-off decisions across payment coverage, performance, cost and reliability.
- Partner with commercial and market teams to support the expansion of payment capabilities into new markets.
Requirements
- 6+ years of product management experience, with a strong track record of delivering complex and technical products.
- Prior experience in payments, financial infrastructure or other high-scale transactional systems is a strong advantage.
- Experience working with external partners such as banks, processors or card schemes.
- Ability to establish and maintain performance standards with external partners.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to work directly with transaction data to identify and prioritise problems.
- Technical fluency and the ability to work closely with engineers on payment processing systems.
- Ability to reason about performance, resilience and reliability trade-offs.
- Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strong project management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple workstreams.
- Ability to follow through on projects and meet deadlines.
- Action- and results-oriented approach, with sound judgment in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
