About the Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Paystack, you will work at the forefront of the engineering team, driving the development and delivery of high-impact projects.

You will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers and other stakeholders to build scalable, secure and reliable payment solutions. The role also provides an opportunity to contribute to the company’s technical direction and mentor other engineers.

Responsibilities

• Develop, deploy and maintain complex software systems and services.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design and deliver new features and enhancements.
• Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs.
• Optimise applications for maximum speed and scalability.
• Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices and coding standards.
• Identify and address performance bottlenecks, security vulnerabilities and other technical issues.
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation within the team.
• Participate in the hiring process to attract and retain top engineering talent.
• Contribute to the technical direction of the company.
• Mentor other engineers and support their professional development.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in software development, with a proven track record of contributing to successful projects.
• Expertise in one or more programming languages, such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Python or Go.
• Proficiency in TypeScript is preferred, although experience with any C-style programming language will be considered.
• Strong understanding of web technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Experience with modern frameworks such as React, Angular or Vue.js.
• Experience with AWS and containerisation technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns and data structures.
• Proven experience with RESTful APIs, microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.
