Job Role Description
The Process Technician provides functional, day-to-day support and surveillance of unit operating equipment. The role requires a thorough understanding of safe work practices, preventive and mitigating safeguards, process hazards, emergency response procedures, and key operating limits for assigned equipment.
Process Technicians are responsible for safely isolating equipment, preparing units for maintenance activities, managing potential energy, chemical, and environmental risks, and safely returning equipment to service while minimising process disruptions and operational risks.
Job Responsibilities
As a Process Technician, you will:
- Develop a thorough working knowledge of primary unit operations, safe operating limits, and control schemes.
- Develop a strong understanding of unit process and environmental hazards, as well as safeguards that prevent or mitigate risks.
- Comply with safe work standards, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), Management of Change (MOC), and operational procedures.
- Conduct assigned surveillance and sampling rounds with an Operations Excellence and Process & Personnel Safety mindset.
- Develop and/or execute Process Plans to prepare equipment for maintenance and safely return equipment to service.
- Perform both field and/or console operations responsibilities to manage and improve unit operations.
- Understand and execute emergency response procedures across a variety of operational scenarios.
- Monitor equipment, identify abnormal operating conditions, and support optimisation and troubleshooting activities.
Skills and Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- A minimum of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Process, Instrumentation, or a related discipline.
- City & Guilds Level 4 in Process or Instrumentation, or an equivalent qualification obtained through an oil and gas industry apprenticeship programme.
A Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Engineering or related sciences without an HND is acceptable only if the candidate has an established and verifiable minimum of three years’ experience working as a Process Technician in the oil and gas industry.

- Have a minimum of 3 years’ relevant oil and gas operator technician experience.
- Be a Nigerian citizen.
- Have completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and possess either an NYSC Discharge Certificate or an Exemption Letter.
Experience Requirements

Technical experience should include:
- Technical Knowledge and Equipment Operation
- Experience operating and maintaining production equipment such as pumps, compressors, and separators.
- Previous FPSO experience is preferred.
- Instrumentation, Mechanical, and Hands-on Skills
- Ability to perform basic repairs, routine maintenance, and equipment adjustments.
- Ability to read and interpret transmitters, sensors, gauges, and control valves.
- Familiarity with Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems and Fire & Gas (F&G) systems.
- Knowledge of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and the ability to monitor and control process parameters remotely.
- P&ID Interpretation
- Good understanding and interpretation of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).
- Attention to Detail
- Ability to monitor equipment performance and detect abnormalities.
- Ability to maintain accurate production logs and reports.
- Ability to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
- Good understanding of Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and critical device bypass.
- Hydrocarbon Processing and Tank Operations
- Knowledge of crude oil processing, stabilisation, and storage in FPSO cargo tanks.
- Experience with tank inert gas systems and offloading procedures.
- Knowledge of oil and gas separation, dehydration, gas compression, water treatment, and export systems.
