Job Context
The Trainer: Driver will manage training sessions for new and experienced delivery officers, evaluate their performance and identify areas requiring additional training. The role will contribute to the long-term development of DP World’s Transport Operations function.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct training sessions for articulated truck drivers on safe and efficient driving techniques, vehicle handling, manoeuvring and operation.
- Research and introduce innovative training methodologies to improve driving capabilities.
- Develop comprehensive training curricula covering safety protocols, vehicle controls, traffic regulations and load handling.
- Design and update driver training materials, presentations, literature and assessments.
- Identify driver skill gaps and develop tailored training plans.
- Train newly recruited drivers on articulated truck operation, vehicle controls, safety features and company procedures.
- Conduct on-board and shadow monitoring of delivery officers.
- Provide refresher training for experienced drivers and targeted training for drivers requiring improvement.
- Assess drivers through practical tests, evaluations and feedback sessions.
- Develop and update assessment questions for ongoing driver evaluation.
- Screen and shortlist candidates for on-road testing.
- Evaluate student performance during driving lessons and provide guidance for improvement.
- Mentor drivers on driving techniques, hazard management and vehicle integrity.
- Promote compliance with safety protocols, traffic regulations and defensive driving practices.
- Train drivers on vehicle maintenance schedules, inspection procedures and emergency protocols.
- Maintain accurate training, assessment and driver progress records.
- Prepare reports on training outcomes and areas requiring improvement.
- Keep up to date with industry best practices, technological developments and regulatory changes.
- Train drivers to respond appropriately to breakdowns, accidents and adverse weather conditions.
- Collaborate with management and relevant stakeholders to align training programmes with organisational objectives.
- Facilitate communication with drivers and receive feedback and suggestions.
Health and Safety Responsibilities
- Liaise with the HSE unit to train drivers on DP World’s health, safety and security regulations and policies.
- Ensure drivers comply with DP World’s and other relevant health, safety and security regulations and policies.
- Participate in incident and accident investigations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in any Social Science discipline or equivalent.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ post-graduate experience training articulated truck drivers.
- Experience in transport and logistics, warehousing, freight forwarding or manufacturing.
- Certification in training and development, instructional design or a related field is an advantage.
