Job Description
Qatar Airways is seeking an experienced Airport Services Duty Officer to join its Ground Services team in Lagos. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall control of shift operations, monitoring airport activities, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and supporting the safe, secure and punctual operation of Qatar Airways flights.
The role also involves maintaining high customer service standards while ensuring compliance with operational and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day airport operations and serve as the primary liaison between airport service providers, authorities and operational users.
- Monitor and coordinate operational activities during assigned shifts to ensure smooth and efficient flight operations.
- Ensure passenger and aircraft handling activities comply with company safety, security and service standards.
- Manage and optimise manpower allocation while maintaining team morale, productivity and discipline.
- Conduct regular operational and service quality spot checks.
- Resolve customer issues and complaints effectively in collaboration with Customer Relations and other relevant stakeholders.
- Lead and conduct shift briefings with supervisors and operational teams.
- Prepare and submit detailed shift and station handling reports to management.
- Manage petty cash expenditure in accordance with established financial procedures and maintain accurate records.
- Compile monthly operational statistics and reports.
- Delegate responsibilities to team members and provide support to ensure operational continuity.
- Perform Aircraft Turnaround Checks as assigned, ensuring compliance with ground handling and safety requirements.
- Operate aircraft cabin service doors externally, where applicable, in accordance with safety procedures.
- Perform other departmental duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification.
- Relevant experience in airport operations, ground handling, customer service or airline operations.
- Strong understanding of airport operational procedures, safety and security requirements.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and manage operational teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience preparing operational reports and maintaining accurate records.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of airline systems and airport operations processes is an advantage.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends, public holidays and irregular hours based on operational requirements.
