Job Summary
PalmPay is a pan-African fintech company operating in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, with plans to expand into additional markets. The company provides digital payment services that make it easier for customers to transfer money, pay bills and shop online.
PalmPay is seeking a Collections Officer to support the recovery of outstanding overdrafts. The successful candidate will contact customers with overdue balances, explain their payment obligations, negotiate suitable repayment plans and follow up to ensure timely payments.
The ideal candidate should have strong communication and negotiation skills, good numerical ability and attention to detail. The role requires patience and resilience, with a focus on reducing outstanding debts and minimising financial losses.
Key Responsibilities
- Review the company’s debtor list and identify outstanding payments.
- Contact customers to inform them of overdue bills and outstanding overdrafts.
- Explain available payment options and recommend suitable payment methods.
- Negotiate appropriate repayment plans with customers.
- Maintain accurate customer payment records.
- Prepare customer financial statements for banks and the state credit department.
- Issue final payment notices to customers who fail to meet their obligations.
- Initiate legal action where necessary when customers fail to repay their debts.
- Respond to customer enquiries and resolve payment-related concerns.
- Liaise with lawyers and insurance agencies to facilitate debt recovery.
Requirements and Qualifications
- OND, HND or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Management or a related field.
- Excellent negotiation and persuasion skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with applicable state debt collection laws.
- Knowledge of payment plans and accounting procedures.
- Proficiency in office and accounting software.
- Patience, resilience and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate professionally with customers and follow up on outstanding payments.
Desired Qualification:
- Previous experience working as a Collections Officer.
Salary and Benefits
- Basic salary of ₦80,000.
- Additional ₦50,000 based on key performance indicators (KPIs).
