Role Overview
The Commercial Relationship Management Officer is part of the sales team responsible for building and maintaining customer relationships, developing and converting sales opportunities, and attracting prospective commercial and retail customers. The role also involves monitoring competitors and identifying strategies to maintain a competitive position.

Sales Management
- Execute the branch’s commercial sales strategy based on local market conditions to achieve sales targets.
- Maintain strong product knowledge, cross-sell banking products and services, and stay informed about changes and developments in the local market.
- Drive customer acquisition and grow commercial business volumes through the opening of different types of accounts.
- Provide feedback to the sales and product management teams on market conditions and opportunities for product development or upgrades.
- Manage existing commercial business relationships and acquire new accounts through sales activities.
- Give sales presentations to prospective customers and engage in regular sales prospecting.
- Help create and maintain a positive sales environment through education on the bank’s products and services.
- Convert service recovery opportunities into business opportunities and maintain customer loyalty.
- Visit existing and prospective customers to assess their needs and promote relevant products and services.
- Coordinate sales efforts with marketing programmes.
Risk Management
- Identify acceptable lending risks in line with the bank’s risk appetite and maximise profitability from lending transactions.
- Comply with the bank’s complaint resolution process to resolve issues and mitigate potential risks and losses.
- Adhere to KYC requirements and bank policies to minimise fraud-related losses.
- Discuss loan terms and conditions and conduct collateral risk analysis in accordance with bank policies and procedures.
- Ensure all documentation within the assigned portfolio is valid and complete.
- Adhere to the bank’s policies and procedures.
Financial Management
- Extract and analyse financial statements, cash flow forecasts and other financial reports to provide accurate assessments.
- Conduct prequalification assessments and analyse the financial condition and risks associated with financing requests.
- Analyse financial statements of new customers and evaluate loan documentation.
- Contribute to the growth of deposits, loans and overdrafts to increase branch profitability.
Customer Service
- Maintain customer service standards to improve service delivery.
- Log customer complaints through the customer query register, identify root causes and address issues at source to prevent recurrence.
- Provide appropriate products and services through suitable channels to meet customer needs.
- Deliver a consistent and differentiated customer experience through holistic needs analysis and consultation with key clients.
- Take ownership of customer service matters within the assigned portfolio.
People Management
- Collaborate with colleagues in the branch to ensure effective support and service delivery.
- Contribute to a positive and proactive workplace culture while meeting safety and wellbeing requirements.
- Demonstrate the bank’s values and comply with corporate HR policies.
- Demonstrate good leadership skills.
Requirements
- Minimum of a First Degree in any discipline.
- Additional qualifications will be an added advantage.
- 3–8 years of cognate experience.
- Professional certification with CIBN.
- Experience in sales and marketing.
- Digitally savvy.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Strong commitment to excellent customer service.
- Strategic thinking and ability to analyse and solve problems quickly.
- Ability to work effectively with others and lead a team.
