Job Summary
The Corporate Tax Operations Manager – Africa (IMEA) will join Maersk’s Corporate Tax Operations team in a senior, authority-facing role. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing corporate tax operations, audits, tax compliance, and tax authority engagements across the African region.
The role involves leading and defending complex tax positions in high-audit jurisdictions while supporting Maersk’s tax governance, risk management, and operational excellence objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance, Reporting and Authority Engagement
- Manage end-to-end corporate tax compliance across Africa, including corporate income tax, withholding taxes, freight taxes, and transfer pricing filings.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and defensible tax filings in line with local regulations and audit expectations.
- Lead tax audits, enquiries, assessments, and dispute resolution with tax authorities across the region.
- Manage tax controversy, including technical submissions, objections, negotiations, and settlement strategies.
- Deliver global and regional tax reporting requirements, including Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR) and Pillar Two.
Audit Readiness, Risk and Governance
- Drive proactive audit readiness through robust documentation, technical position papers, and evidence management.
- Manage tax accounting, provisioning, and uncertain tax positions with clear links to audit and dispute risks.
- Identify, assess, and manage tax risks arising from regulatory changes and business activities.
Operational Excellence and Collaboration
- Strengthen standardized tax processes, controls, and governance frameworks.
- Collaborate with Finance, Legal, business teams, and external advisers to manage tax authority interactions.
- Leverage data and technology to improve audit readiness and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Professional tax or accounting qualification, such as Chartered Accountant or CPA.
- Minimum of 10 years’ post-qualification experience in corporate tax.
- Proven experience leading tax audits, enquiries, and disputes in high-audit environments.
- Strong technical expertise and the ability to defend complex tax positions.
- Experience working independently across multiple jurisdictions.
- Fluency in English and French.
- Strong judgement, stakeholder management, and authority-facing credibility.
