Summary

The company is a furniture business focused on creating functional, innovative and high-quality furniture products. It is seeking a creative and experienced Design Lead with a background in Industrial Design to lead the design team and drive the development of new furniture products from concept to production.

The Design Lead will oversee the product design process, lead the design team, develop innovative furniture concepts and ensure that designs are functional, aesthetically appealing, commercially viable and suitable for manufacturing.

The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of industrial and product design, furniture design, materials, manufacturing processes and design software, with the ability to translate ideas into practical, production-ready products.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the design team and oversee day-to-day design activities.
• Develop innovative furniture concepts in line with the company’s brand and market needs.
• Take products from initial concepts and sketches through prototyping, refinement and production.
• Create and review technical drawings, specifications and product documentation.
• Develop 2D and 3D designs, models and product presentations.
• Collaborate closely with production, procurement, sales and management teams.
• Select appropriate materials, finishes, hardware and construction methods for furniture products.
• Ensure designs are functional, durable, ergonomic, aesthetically appealing and cost-effective.
• Work with manufacturers and production teams to ensure designs can be produced accurately.
• Review prototypes and recommend improvements before final production.
• Research furniture trends, materials, technologies and customer preferences.
• Maintain and develop the company’s product design standards and guidelines.
• Manage multiple design projects while meeting deadlines and production requirements.
• Mentor junior designers and provide feedback to improve their technical and creative skills.
• Ensure consistency across the company’s furniture collections and product range.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Industrial Design, Product Design, Furniture Design, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience in industrial, product or furniture design.
• Proven experience designing furniture or physical consumer products.
• Strong understanding of furniture construction, materials, manufacturing techniques and production processes.
• Proficiency in relevant design and 3D modelling software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino, SketchUp, Fusion 360, 3ds Max, or similar tools.
• Strong understanding of design principles, ergonomics, proportions, materials and functionality.
• Ability to create technical drawings and production-ready specifications.
• Strong creative, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
• Good understanding of cost-conscious and commercially viable product design.
• Strong leadership and project-management skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• A strong portfolio of industrial, product or furniture design projects is required.
