Job Summary
The EGTL Utilities Console Operator will monitor and control utility systems responsible for steam generation, water treatment and polishing, and power generation. The role involves ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient supply of essential utilities, maintaining process conditions within approved operating limits, responding to operational changes, and coordinating with operations and maintenance teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor the EGTL console to deliver daily shift plans, equipment start-ups and controlled shutdowns.
- Respond to plant process upsets and emergencies using the appropriate technical knowledge and competencies.
- Work with technical teams to ensure process systems and control devices operate safely and efficiently.
- Develop and review operating and emergency procedures for the assigned area.
- Identify and report abnormal operating conditions and equipment deviations, following up to support equipment reliability and availability.
- Perform routine operator duties and complete shift handover notes.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- HND or university degree from a recognised institution.
- At least five years of experience as a qualified Field Operator in a refinery or a similar complex process facility.
- Successful completion of the relevant Formal Operator Training Programme (FOTP) and Qualification Review Board (QRB) requirements for the specific plant technology.
Skills and Expertise
- Knowledge of process safety hazards, risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
- Effective communication skills and an understanding of the importance of feedback.
- Good understanding of asset integrity, particularly process equipment.
- Ability to demonstrate operator care through effective Operator Routine Duties (ORDs).
- OPITO certification or a similar industry-recognised craft certification is an added advantage.
