Job Summary

4 Quarters Consultants is recruiting a Field Engineer (Mechanical) on behalf of a leading power generator company headquartered in Victoria Island, Lagos. The successful candidate will be responsible for mechanical maintenance, servicing, repairs and overhaul support for diesel and gas generator engines.

The role involves working both in the workshop and at client sites, ensuring engines remain reliable and properly serviced. The Field Engineer will also support mechanical installation and commissioning activities and troubleshoot and repair mechanical faults in the field.

Key Responsibilities

Engine Maintenance and Repair

  • Perform scheduled servicing and preventive maintenance across the generator fleet, including oil and filter changes, cooling systems, fuel systems, belts and valve checks.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults involving fuel, cooling, lubrication, air and exhaust, gas-train and starting systems.
  • Support top-end and major engine overhauls in the workshop.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work carried out.

Mechanical Installation and Commissioning

  • Carry out mechanical installation of generator sets, including positioning, mounting, alignment, cooling/radiator, exhaust and fuel/gas connections.
  • Support commissioning, first-start and run-in checks in line with OEM specifications.
  • Work with mechanical drawings and installation manuals.
  • Support project handover activities.

Site Service and Maintenance

  • Attend client sites under service contracts for scheduled servicing and breakdown response.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues at client sites and carry out necessary repairs to minimise downtime.
  • Complete service checklists, technical reports and parts records.

HSE and Quality

  • Work in accordance with HSE standards, permit-to-work procedures and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) requirements.
  • Carry out standard testing and QA/QC checks.
  • Report incidents and near-misses appropriately.

Requirements

  • B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering. A full engineering degree is required for this role.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant post-graduation experience in diesel and gas generator engines, covering fleet maintenance, projects and field service.
  • Hands-on experience with major generator engine brands such as Caterpillar, Cummins, Perkins, MWM, Jenbacher, Volvo or Scania is an advantage.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites at short notice.
