Organizational Context and Scope
The Office of Staff Security (OSS) provides leadership on security policy management and operational support to enable effective implementation of IOM programmes while managing security risks at acceptable levels.
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Office, Benin City Field Office, and direct supervision of the Field Security Officer (FSO), the Field Security Associate will support security and safety activities in the Benin City Field Office and assist with security risk management and security awareness.
Responsibilities
- Maintain effective working relationships with the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) area office, government agencies and local security authorities to obtain up-to-date security information.
- Assist the Field Security Officer in collecting, updating and communicating information regarding the security situation.
- Support the development and implementation of field office security plans, contingency and emergency response plans, SOPs and security inputs into the Business Continuity Plan (BCP).
- Follow up on staff compliance with safety and security protocols, mandatory security training and security clearances.
- Support security surveys of IOM offices.
- Assist with the effective management of the Field Office Warden system, including maintaining updated staff and call sign lists.
- Ensure the operability of communication systems, particularly SCAAN, and timely dissemination of security information.
- Ensure safety and security communication equipment is functioning and properly maintained.
- Assist in reporting security incidents affecting IOM personnel, premises, assets and operations.
- Support the preparation of Security Incident Reports and Weekly Reports.
- Assist in organizing security awareness and preparedness training and security orientations for newly assigned personnel.
- Conduct security briefings as required.
- Maintain an orderly filing system for confidential security correspondence, files and documents.
- Maintain a database of contact details for UNDSS offices and host-country security authorities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
- University Degree in Security, Social Sciences, International Studies, Communications or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with three years of relevant professional experience; or
- Completed High School Degree from an accredited academic institution, with five years of relevant professional experience.
- Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience:
- Relevant professional experience in the humanitarian, public, private or corporate sector is desirable.
- Experience providing security coordination and administrative support for an international organization is desirable.
- Experience using radio communications is desirable.
- Successful completion of the UNDSS Field Security Associate (FSA) course is desirable.
Skills:
- Ability to collaborate with senior government security counterparts and relevant stakeholders is an advantage.
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to listen actively and respond effectively.
