About the Federal Road Safety Corps
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is Nigeria’s lead agency for road safety administration and management. Established in February 1988, the Corps is responsible for promoting safer road use through traffic enforcement, public education, emergency response and other road safety initiatives. The Federal Government established the Federal Road Safety Commission in February 1988 through Decree No. 45 of 1988, later amended by Decree No. 35 of 1992. The legislation was subsequently enacted as the Federal Road Safety Commission (Establishment) Act 2007.
FRSC’s responsibilities include preventing and minimising road crashes, clearing obstructions from highways, educating motorists and the public on safe road use, regulating speed limits and seat-belt use, providing care to crash victims, conducting road safety research, and supporting the administration of driver licensing and vehicle number plates. The Corps’ vision is to create a safe motoring environment towards achieving zero road traffic deaths, while its mission focuses on coordinating road safety initiatives through strategic partnerships and alignment with global strategies.
