The company is recruiting to fill the position of HSE Officer – FMN Agro at its Bauchi plant.
Job Summary
The HSE Officer will support the implementation and enforcement of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures at the Bauchi plant. The successful candidate will monitor compliance, conduct safety inspections, assess operational risks, investigate incidents and promote a strong safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor compliance with company HSE policies, procedures, standards and FMN Life Saving Rules.
- Conduct routine safety inspections across plant operations, warehouses, conveyors, truck loading bays, blending units and maintenance activities.
- Identify unsafe acts and conditions, conduct risk assessments, and ensure the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Assess training needs, develop safety training plans, and deliver HSE training, toolbox talks and safety awareness campaigns.
- Conduct daily safety patrols and Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) observations to encourage safe working practices.
- Monitor HSE performance indicators, including First Aid Incidents (FAI), Lost Time Injuries (LTI), Total Recordable Incidents (TRI), road traffic accidents and fire incidents.
- Ensure the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and compliance with safe systems of work and permit-to-work requirements.
Requirements
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience
- At least two years of relevant HSE experience in a manufacturing, fertiliser, chemical or process plant environment.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Good knowledge of HSE principles, risk assessment, hazard control and incident investigation.
- Understanding of Nigerian HSE legislation, regulatory requirements and applicable ISO management system standards.
- Proficiency in safety inspections, audits, Behaviour-Based Safety observations and permit-to-work monitoring.
