Security Officer at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Job Summary

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is recruiting a Security Officer in Aba, Abia State. The successful candidate will provide professional, unarmed security services to protect Church properties, facilities, members, and visitors. The role involves monitoring premises, responding to security incidents, identifying potential threats, and maintaining a safe and peaceful environment for worship and other Church activities.

Responsibilities

Comply with security policies, procedures, directives, and applicable local laws and regulations.
Patrol facilities and grounds to identify potential security threats, safety concerns, and environmental hazards.
Inspect doors, windows, gates, and other access points to ensure buildings are secure.
Identify and report potential sources of unauthorised entry.
Respond professionally to situations that may disrupt the temple environment, contacting the appropriate police agency when necessary.
Respond appropriately to security incidents involving fire, theft, vandalism, trespassing, bomb threats, illegal entry, and other criminal activities.
Identify and report suspicious persons, unusual activities, and physical or mechanical hazards.
Respond to requests for first aid and medical assistance.
Maintain professional relationships with external agencies and other departments.
Prepare complete written reports on incidents, suspicious activities, and unusual events.
Participate in security training to improve professional skills, capabilities, and security awareness.
Maintain a professional and respectful demeanour while performing security duties, including in potentially hostile or high-risk situations.

Requirements

Must be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worthy of a current temple recommend.
A diploma or security certification from an accredited institution.
A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
At least four years of security or law enforcement training or experience is preferred. Related experience may substitute for some security experience, subject to the employer’s stated limits.
Functional knowledge of technical security systems or the ability to learn their operation.
No prior criminal record or affiliation with anti-government or anti-Church groups.
Ability to pass the required screening, suitability assessment, background checks, and physical fitness tests.
A valid driver’s licence.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
General written and spoken English proficiency is an added advantage.
Ability to communicate information clearly and accurately, pay attention to detail, and complete assigned tasks.
Physical and mental fitness to perform security duties, including standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, lifting, and other physical activities.
Excellent vision and good computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Four years of experience in management, security, law enforcement, emergency response, medical services, the military, or customer service.
Three years of post-secondary education or equivalent security training.
