Job Summary
The Machining and Welding Technician will be responsible for carrying out welding assignments, machining activities, fabrication work, and repairs involving industrial valves and related components.
Responsibilities
- Cut and prepare various materials for machining and welding.
- Operate different types of machinery and equipment within the Welding Department in accordance with approved quality standards.
- Execute welding projects.
- Analyse engineering designs to determine welding requirements.
- Review welding procedures, processes, and documentation.
- Generate welding procedures to support assembly and welding teams.
- Conduct failure and root-cause analyses on welding-related issues.
- Perform welding and fabrication of valve bodies, bonnets, and associated components where approved.
- Carry out valve modifications and machining repairs as instructed.
Requirements
- Minimum of OND/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Welding & Fabrication, or a related discipline.
- Trade Test, City & Guilds, or relevant welding/machining certification is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years’ industrial welding experience.
- Competence in SMAW (Arc), GTAW (TIG), and GMAW (MIG) welding processes.
- Ability to set up, operate, and troubleshoot welding equipment safely.
- Ability to read and interpret measuring devices, engineering drawings, and blueprints.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly in a fast-paced environment.
- Practical machining and welding experience with industrial valves and valve components.
- Experience operating manual lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, and grinding machines.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Computer literacy.
- Experience in industrial valve repair is an added advantage.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
