The U.S. Mission to Nigeria comprises the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos. The Consulate General Lagos is seeking qualified candidates for a temporary Shipment Clerk position in the Overseas Building Operations (OBO) Office.

Job Summary
The Shipment Clerk will support the OBO project team by obtaining customs clearance for incoming and outgoing official shipments and assisting with vehicle registration and inspection.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Obtain customs clearance for incoming and outgoing official shipments.
- Support shipment activities for the New Consulate Compound in Lagos.
- Work with the Ministry of Transportation to facilitate vehicle registration and inspection.
- Maintain proper shipping and customs documentation.
- Liaise with vendors, trucking companies, local officials and other relevant contacts.
- Support record-keeping and filing activities.
- Follow up on projects and ensure deadlines are met.
- Perform other duties related to shipping and logistics as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of High School is required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in customs, shipping or logistics.
- Good working knowledge of English.
- Knowledge of local cargo, shipping and customs procedures and regulations.
- Knowledge of vehicle registration, insurance, import/export requirements and relevant local regulations.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Good record-keeping and organisational skills.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must hold a valid Nigerian driver’s licence.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
