Job Summary

The Policy Support Intern will support research and policy activities within the Nigeria Country Office under the supervision of the Senior Policy Manager and Policy Manager. The role involves supporting project activities, data collection and management, stakeholder engagement, research documentation, analysis and reporting.

Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Programme survey instruments in SurveyCTO, following programming best practices.
  • Supervise and monitor data collection to ensure high-quality data.
  • Implement data quality checks and resolve issues identified during data collection.
  • Support project finances, including budgeting, expense tracking and financial reporting.
  • Clean and manage data on an ongoing basis.

Partner Engagement

  • Handle day-to-day communications with Principal Investigators (PIs) and project partners.
  • Provide timely updates and responses to partner organisations and participate in meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Keep the Senior Policy Manager and Policy Manager informed of project developments.
  • Support communication and coordination between field staff, research teams and Principal Investigators.

Technical and Project Support

  • Prepare training materials and collaborate with survey firms in conducting enumerator training and piloting research instruments.
  • Ensure that team members follow required protocols and procedures.
  • Regularly communicate project updates to the relevant managers.
  • Provide training and support to research project staff.
  • Support the country office in project and policy development activities as required.

Analysis and Reporting

  • Assist with preliminary analysis and ensure researchers have timely access to project data.
  • Document project activities and maintain accurate records.
  • Maintain confidentiality of research participants and project information.
  • Prepare high-quality progress and results reports for Principal Investigators, research partners and funding agencies.
  • Produce dissemination materials, including presentations, final reports and evidence briefs.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Senior Policy Manager or Policy Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Public Policy, Social Science or a related field. A graduate degree is strongly preferred.
  • 2–5 years of relevant work experience, including experience in economics research, impact evaluations or international development.
  • Advanced competency in Stata.
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis.
  • Experience managing field data collection.
  • Strong professional writing skills.
  • Strong client-facing and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, versatility and the ability to learn quickly.
  • Passion for making data-driven decision-making a reality in the international development sector.
  • Experience managing research projects in Nigeria.
  • Experience with randomised controlled trials (RCTs).

Travel Requirements

The successful candidate should expect to spend at least 50% of their time at study sites during data collection periods.
