Job Summary
Paystack is seeking a Senior Product Manager to take ownership of payment processing, including the payment channels and partner rails that support transactions across its markets.
The role will involve managing payment methods, bank and processor integrations, card schemes and the reliability of the processing stack. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, data, commercial teams and external partners to improve transaction success rates, processing performance, reliability and payment coverage.
The role reports to the Head of Product. Candidates based in Lagos, Nigeria are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the product strategy and roadmap for Paystack’s payment processing, covering channels, partner rails and processing reliability.
- Expand and improve payment methods and channels available to merchants, including cards, bank transfers and direct debit.
- Drive improvements in transaction success rates and authorisation performance across supported channels.
- Manage product relationships with banks, card schemes, processors and other payment partners.
- Assess and prioritise new partner integrations and determine where Paystack should connect next.
- Work with partners to resolve performance issues and improve transaction reliability.
- Own the reliability and uptime of the processing stack as transaction volumes grow.
- Reduce transaction failures and improve resilience through retries, failover and effective handling of partner downtime.
- Optimise transaction latency and throughput to ensure fast and dependable processing at scale.
- Analyse transaction data to identify where payments fail, slow down or drop off by channel and partner.
- Define and monitor key processing metrics, including success rate, authorisation rate, latency and uptime.
- Translate merchant and market needs into clear product requirements for channel and partner initiatives.
- Make informed trade-offs across payment coverage, performance, cost and reliability.
- Work with commercial and market teams to support the expansion of payment capabilities into new markets.
Requirements
- 6+ years of product management experience, with a strong track record of delivering complex, technical products.
- Experience in payments, financial infrastructure or other high-scale transactional systems is an advantage.
- Experience working with external partners such as banks, processors or card schemes.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to work directly with transaction data to identify and prioritise problems.
- Technical fluency and the ability to work closely with engineers on payment-processing systems.
- Understanding of performance, resilience and reliability trade-offs in technical products.
- Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strong project management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple workstreams and meet deadlines.
- Results-oriented approach and sound judgement in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Ability to make effective decisions in ambiguous situations.
