Job Description
Primera Africa Group Limited is seeking a Team Lead, HR Business Partner to lead performance and talent management, employee engagement, workforce planning, employee relations and HR operations.
The successful candidate will provide strategic Human Capital insights to business leaders while leading the HR Generalist team to deliver effective HR solutions across assigned functions.
Key Responsibilities
Human Capital Business Partnering
- Serve as the primary HR Business Partner to assigned corporate and operational functions.
- Partner with business leaders on workforce planning, organisational effectiveness and talent requirements.
- Provide advice on employee relations, performance, engagement, retention and people management.
- Identify workforce trends and recommend interventions to improve productivity.
- Support restructuring, role redesign and organisational change initiatives.
- Provide workforce insights and recommendations to management.
Performance & Talent Management
- Partner with managers to drive effective performance management.
- Identify high-potential and critical talent and support succession planning.
- Support talent reviews and employee development planning.
- Identify capability gaps and recommend appropriate interventions.
- Support career development and internal mobility initiatives.
- Monitor performance concerns and ensure timely interventions.
Employee Engagement & Retention
- Lead the employee engagement agenda for assigned functions.
- Analyse employee engagement feedback and identify people-related risks.
- Develop and monitor engagement action plans.
- Track turnover and retention trends.
- Lead retention interventions for critical or high-risk employee groups.
- Support a positive employee experience throughout the employee lifecycle.
Employee Relations
- Advise managers on employee relations matters.
- Handle complex employee relations cases.
- Ensure consistent application of HR policies and procedures.
- Escalate significant or sensitive cases to the Head, Human Capital.
- Maintain appropriate case documentation and records.
Payroll Management & Governance
- Coordinate and consolidate monthly payroll inputs from HR Generalists.
- Prepare monthly payroll for Human Capital review.
- Validate new hires, exits, promotions, salary changes, allowances and deductions.
- Conduct payroll variance and reconciliation checks.
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies.
- Maintain the payroll calendar and ensure compliance with payroll deadlines.
- Coordinate with Finance and other relevant stakeholders on payroll matters.
- Maintain payroll confidentiality, controls and access requirements.
- Present payroll to the Head, Human Capital for review and approval.
HRIS & Human Capital Operations
- Ensure HRIS data integrity and accurate employee lifecycle transactions.
- Monitor compliance with Human Capital processes and controls.
- Oversee workforce reports and management information.
- Identify opportunities to simplify, automate and improve HR processes.
- Ensure appropriate employee records and documentation are maintained.
Recruitment & Workforce Planning
- Partner with business leaders to establish workforce requirements.
- Review recruitment requests against approved workforce plans and budgets.
- Work with HR Generalists to coordinate recruitment activities.
- Monitor recruitment progress, quality of hire and workforce gaps.
- Support workforce forecasting and succession planning.
Learning & Development
- Identify learning and capability requirements.
- Coordinate appropriate learning interventions with HR Generalists.
- Ensure learning initiatives align with business and performance needs.
- Support evaluation of learning outcomes and impact.
Human Capital Reporting & Analytics
- Review workforce data and identify trends requiring management attention.
- Monitor headcount, turnover, recruitment, absenteeism, performance and engagement metrics.
- Prepare portfolio insights for management discussions.
- Contribute to Human Capital dashboards and reports.
Team Leadership
- Lead and coach the HR Generalist assigned to the portfolio.
- Ensure timely and quality delivery of HR services.
- Develop the Generalist’s capabilities across the HR lifecycle.
- Ensure cross-training and business continuity within the Human Capital team.
- Provide support and backup to other HR Business Partners when required.
Policy, Compliance & Governance
- Support implementation and consistent application of Human Capital policies.
- Identify gaps in HR processes and recommend improvements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable employment requirements and organisational policies.
- Support internal and external Human Capital audits where required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Social Sciences or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar HR/Human Capital role.
- Strong knowledge of Human Capital Business Partnering.
- Experience in performance and talent management, employee relations and workforce planning.
- Strong HR operations and payroll management experience.
- Excellent communication, analytical and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively with business leaders and cross-functional teams.
Preferred
- Professional certification in HR or a related professional field is an advantage.
