Job Description

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is recruiting a WASH Officer to coordinate and implement water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects in Pulka, Borno State.

The successful candidate will work with affected communities, local authorities, partners and DRC teams to implement quality WASH interventions in line with organisational guidelines, cluster standards and humanitarian principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and monitor emergency WASH interventions in communities and health facilities.
  • Supervise rehabilitation and maintenance of emergency sanitation facilities.
  • Coordinate distribution of WASH and cholera prevention kits to targeted households.
  • Implement environmental sanitation activities in high-risk cholera hotspot communities.
  • Mobilise communities to maintain WASH resources.
  • Train and build the capacity of water committees.
  • Provide technical support and mentoring to community-based WASH structures.
  • Participate in WASH coordination meetings and represent DRC when required.
  • Coordinate WASH activities with other DRC sectors and relevant partners.
  • Monitor and evaluate WASH projects and ensure quality implementation.
  • Ensure activities comply with Sphere and national standards.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual WASH reports.
  • Support procurement planning and coordination with supply chain teams.
  • Support the development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation plans and WASH tools.
  • Maintain accurate WASH records and project documentation.

Requirements

Experience and Technical Competencies

  • At least 3 years of experience implementing and evaluating WASH and civil infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of WASH approaches and Sphere Standards.
  • Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD or suitable design software.
  • Experience working in emergency response with NGOs is desirable.
  • Project planning and management experience is an added advantage.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Fluency in local languages.
  • Fluency in Hausa and Kanuri is required.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Water Engineering or Architecture from a recognised institution is desirable.
  • A degree in Engineering or an equivalent field combined with relevant work experience may also be considered.

  • The position is based in Pulka, Borno State.
  • Contract duration is 2 months.
  • The successful candidate will be employed on a national contract.
  • Due to the urgency of the position, DRC may recruit before the application deadline.
