Espritsor is recruiting on behalf of a furniture manufacturing company in Abuja equipped with state-of-the-art wood manufacturing machinery and equipment. The company specialises in wood processing and furniture production, with a focus on efficient manufacturing operations and quality furniture output.
Job Summary
Espritsor’s client is seeking an experienced Wood and Furniture Factory Manager to oversee the day-to-day manufacturing operations of its wood and furniture division.
The successful candidate will be responsible for improving production efficiency, optimising timber and board utilisation, maintaining shop-floor discipline, ensuring high-quality joinery and furniture production, overseeing machinery maintenance, and enforcing workplace safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Production Operations and Scheduling
- Plan, direct and coordinate production schedules for custom cabinetry, joinery and mass furniture production.
- Ensure production activities are completed efficiently and products are delivered within agreed timelines.
Material and Inventory Control
- Oversee timber and board utilisation to minimise cutting waste.
- Monitor inventory levels and implement measures to prevent raw material losses and shrinkage.
- Ensure efficient allocation and utilisation of production materials.
Shop-Floor Management and Leadership
- Supervise production personnel, including supervisors, joiners, sprayers, assemblers and CNC operators.
- Enforce shop-floor discipline, punctuality and production output targets.
- Coordinate workforce activities to maintain efficient manufacturing operations.
Quality Assurance
- Inspect finished furniture products to ensure compliance with quality specifications.
- Monitor veneer work, edge banding, joining precision, lacquering and finishing processes.
- Maintain high-quality standards and minimise defects before product dispatch.
Machinery and Equipment Maintenance
- Oversee routine preventive maintenance and timely repairs of traditional woodworking tools and automated machinery.
- Ensure the proper functioning of CNC routers, edge banders, panel saws and other production equipment.
Safety and Regulatory Compliance
- Enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) across the factory.
- Ensure compliance with wood-dust extraction protocols and workshop health and safety guidelines.
- Promote a safe and well-organised manufacturing environment.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering, Woodworking Technology, Industrial Production or a related discipline.
- Eight to ten years’ hands-on experience in industrial furniture or woodwork manufacturing.
- At least four years’ experience in a managerial or supervisory position.
- Strong technical knowledge of wood species, moisture content testing, panel processing and joinery techniques.
- Expertise in surface finishing, including polyurethane (PU) and nitrocellulose (NC) spray finishes.
- Knowledge of CNC machining operations.
- Strong leadership, team management and resource allocation skills.
- Ability to solve shop-floor production challenges and control manufacturing costs.
