WPE Program Overview:
The Women Protection and Empowerment (WPE) program addresses Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through Prevention, Response, and Empowerment activities, focusing on providing quality health and psychosocial support to conflict-affected women and girls in Borno State.


Job Overview/Summary

The WPE Community Mobilization Assistant will raise awareness in communities about gender-based violence (GBV) and related issues to foster attitude and behavior changes that challenge and prevent GBV. The role involves encouraging critical examination of gender roles and inequalities, developing community-driven safety and security plans, and coordinating with partners for a multi-sectoral approach to GBV.


Major Responsibilities

  • Raise awareness and promote changes in attitudes and behaviors related to gender equality and GBV.
  • Encourage active community participation in GBV prevention and response.
  • Develop and implement prevention strategies by forming community groups for GBV response and prevention.
  • Collaborate with the WPE Response team to facilitate trainings and sensitizations for community groups, local partners, and CBOs on GBV issues.
  • Promote the involvement of men and youth in GBV activities.
  • Use participatory methodology to assess community needs and assist in developing community-driven prevention and response plans.
  • Mobilize communities to form action groups for awareness-raising and support greater self-reliance among women.
  • Collaborate with case workers to engage women in psychosocial activities at womenโ€™s centers.
  • Identify training needs and conduct trainings for community members in collaboration with WPE Case Workers, Trainers, Women action groups, and Youth Groups.
  • Liaise with community leaders, government agencies, IRC sectors, and partners to organize training and capacity-building activities.
  • Promote womenโ€™s active participation in community leadership and decision-making.
  • Conduct safety audits in camps to identify security risks and develop strategies to address them in collaboration with CWC Officer and Senior Case Worker.
  • Assist WPE Program Manager, Senior Manager, and Coordinator in strategic planning for ongoing programming.
  • Compile and summarize weekly statistics for M&E Officer and submit weekly narrative reports to WPE Program Manager.
  • Communicate obstacles/problems to WPE Program Manager for further action.

  • Reports to: WPE Senior Case Management Officer

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate from a reputable University.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of experience in community mobilization using participatory methodology.
  • Experience with participatory/adult learning techniques is preferred.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest and commitment to Human Rights, Gender Equality, and Gender issues.
  • Enthusiastic, creative, and able to work effectively in challenging environments.
  • Fluent in community languages and written/spoken English; fluency in Hausa is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in Word and Excel.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work as part of a team.
