Ecom is an agri-commodity export business operating across West Africa. The company is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented candidate for the position of Accountant – MIS & Central Reporting in its Finance Department in Lagos, Nigeria.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing management information systems (MIS), consolidating financial and operational data, and preparing accurate reports to support management decision-making. The role also involves supporting budgeting, forecasting, month-end closing, and financial controls.
Key Responsibilities
MIS Management
- Maintain and update central MIS workbooks and dashboards covering purchases, stock, sales, shipments, production, and cash.
- Collect daily and weekly data from entity, procurement, warehouse, and plant teams.
- Follow up on late or incomplete submissions.
- Develop and maintain pivot tables, dashboards, and key performance indicator (KPI) trackers.
- Standardise data templates, naming conventions, and coding across entities.
- Document MIS processes, data sources, and reporting definitions.
Central Reporting
- Prepare monthly reports on purchases and inventory.
- Produce daily and weekly reports on commodity purchases, including volumes, prices, and cost per tonne, as well as stock positions and shipments.
- Prepare schedules and analyses for meetings and other reporting requirements as requested by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Accounting and Control Support
- Support month-end closing activities, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Reconcile MIS figures with the general ledger and resolve discrepancies.
- Track supplier advances, farmer and aggregator pre-financing, and inventory valuation.
- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules and supporting documentation.
Data Quality and Improvement
- Check data for accuracy and completeness before reports are issued.
- Identify and implement automation opportunities using Excel formulas, Power Query, and Power BI.
- Maintain proper file version control, backups, and access restrictions.
Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field, with a minimum of Second Class Upper or equivalent.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Applicants may be fresh graduates with strong Excel skills or candidates with two to three years of experience in accounting, auditing, MIS, or financial reporting.
Additional Advantages
- Progress towards a professional qualification such as ICAN, ACCA, CIMA, ICAG, or CPA.
- Experience in agri-commodities, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), manufacturing, or export trading.
- Familiarity with ERP or accounting systems such as SAP, Sage, Oracle, or QuickBooks.
