About Jaza Energy
Jaza is a solar energy start-up working to expand access to clean, affordable energy across Sub-Saharan Africa. The company operates a decentralised energy network built around solar-powered shops where customers can charge and exchange batteries used to power their homes. Jaza started operations in Tanzania in 2017 and expanded to Nigeria in 2021. Since 2022, the company has facilitated more than 3 million battery swaps, providing approximately 225,000 people with access to clean and affordable energy. Jaza employs women from the communities it serves, known as Jaza Stars, to operate its energy services. Through this model, the company supports its team members in becoming leaders, entrepreneurs and contributors to economic growth within their communities.
