Job Title: Communication Manager | Location: Abuja
Job Type: Contract
Duration: 6 months, renewable
Start Date: As soon as possible

The Alliance for International Medical Action (ALIMA) is an independent humanitarian medical NGO established in 2009 by professionals in humanitarian medicine. The organisation provides medical care in emergency situations and humanitarian crises.

Main Activities

  • Define and implement 360° communication strategies for projects.
  • Develop communication sections for donor proposals and ensure communication plans are effectively implemented.
  • Coordinate the production of photographs, videos, articles, success stories and other digital content.
  • Ensure legal and administrative compliance in content production.
  • Monitor communication budgets and distribute approved content to relevant audiences.
  • Develop communication plans for specific projects and key events.
  • Support advocacy activities and provide communication advice on key issues.
  • Develop crisis communication guidelines and respond effectively to emergencies.
  • Coordinate with ALIMA’s communications and digital teams in Dakar.
  • Manage relationships with local, national and international media.
  • Monitor media coverage and identify relevant journalists and media opportunities.
  • Produce press releases, press kits, interviews and other media materials.
  • Coordinate press interviews and media visits.
  • Promote ALIMA’s activities through internal communications.
  • Train staff in digital content creation, media relations and public speaking.
  • Supervise Field Communication Officers where applicable.
  • Support the implementation of safeguarding and abuse-prevention standards.

Requirements

  • Postgraduate Degree in Communication or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of proven experience in a similar role.
  • Experience managing complex communication projects.
  • Strong expertise in 360° communications, digital content production, press relations and events.
  • Experience in photography and video production, including mobile phone content creation.
  • Experience coordinating communication and media content.
  • Knowledge of Africa is essential.
  • Experience in the humanitarian or voluntary sector is an advantage.
  • Excellent English language and writing skills.
  • Knowledge of a local language is an advantage.
  • Strong strategic, project management and digital skills.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment and travel to the field.
  • Good interpersonal skills, autonomy, curiosity and attention to detail.

Remuneration

  • Salary at Level 9 of ALIMA’s salary scale for Nigeria.
  • 10% cost-of-living allowance.
  • Transport allowance.
  • Health cover for employees and their dependents.
