Job Summary

The Transport / Dispatch Lead is responsible for the day-to-day execution and shift-level supervision of dispatch, loading and weighbridge operations for the Polypropylene (PP) plant.

The role ensures the safe, accurate and timely loading and dispatch of finished PP products through road and bulk carriers, while maintaining accurate documentation, efficient yard traffic flow and compliance with HSE and process safety standards.

Responsibilities

Dispatch Execution & Scheduling

  • Execute the daily and shift dispatch plan issued by the Transport / Dispatch Manager.
  • Sequence vehicles and rail cars for loading based on priority and readiness.
  • Monitor dispatch progress and proactively identify delays and bottlenecks.
  • Adjust sequencing to minimise operational disruption.
  • Coordinate with Warehouse and Production teams to confirm product and quantity availability.
  • Communicate loading instructions and schedules to drivers, transporters and loading bay personnel.

Weighbridge, Gatehouse & Loading Operations

  • Coordinate with weighbridge and gatehouse staff to ensure accurate vehicle check-in and recording of tare, gross and net weights.
  • Verify documentation before loading.
  • Oversee loading bay operations and confirm correct product grade, batch number and quantity.
  • Ensure loading equipment is used correctly and faults are reported promptly.
  • Manage yard traffic and vehicle queues to minimise congestion and turnaround time.

Team Supervision & Shift Leadership

  • Supervise weighbridge operators, loading coordinators, transport clerks and yard marshals.
  • Conduct shift handovers, toolbox talks and daily briefings.
  • Allocate manpower across weighbridge, gatehouse and loading functions.
  • Provide on-the-job coaching and training on procedures, systems and safety practices.

Documentation, Compliance & HSE

  • Verify dispatch documentation, including delivery notes, weighbridge tickets and certificates of analysis.
  • Ensure drivers and vehicles meet pre-loading safety and documentation requirements.
  • Enforce HSE and process safety standards during loading, weighing and yard operations.
  • Apply appropriate static and spark-risk controls relevant to PP handling.
  • Report and support investigations into near-misses, incidents, product damage and documentation errors.

Coordination & Continuous Improvement

  • Liaise with the Warehouse Lead to align product storage and dispatch readiness with loading schedules.
  • Coordinate with transporters and rail operators on vehicle and rail-car availability.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce loading turnaround time, queue time and documentation errors.
  • Maintain accurate shift records and prepare handover and performance summaries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation Management, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
  • 5–8 years’ experience in transportation, dispatch or logistics operations.
  • Experience in petrochemical, polymer, refinery or bulk manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • Experience with bulk or hazardous product loading is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in a shift-supervisory or team-lead capacity.
  • Working knowledge of transport documentation, dangerous goods handling and HSE standards.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP SD/TM or an equivalent dispatch/ERP system is required.
  • Logistics, Transportation or Dangerous Goods/Hazmat certification is an advantage.

Digital / SAP Skills

  • Working knowledge of SAP SD for outbound delivery processing, goods issue and dispatch documentation.
  • Familiarity with SAP TM or equivalent shipment and vehicle scheduling systems.
  • Ability to operate weighbridge automation and electronic ticketing systems.
  • Basic Microsoft Excel skills for dispatch tracking and performance reporting.
