Environmental Manager

The Environmental Manager will be responsible for managing environmental performance and ensuring compliance with applicable environmental standards and company requirements at the plant.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the implementation of environmental management systems and programmes.
  • Monitor environmental performance and ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations and company standards.
  • Identify environmental risks and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive measures.
  • Monitor waste management, emissions, water usage and other environmental aspects of plant operations.
  • Conduct environmental assessments, audits and inspections.
  • Prepare environmental reports and maintain relevant documentation.
  • Work with relevant departments to improve environmental performance and reduce environmental impact.
  • Support environmental awareness, training and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Liaise with relevant regulatory bodies and other external stakeholders where required.
  • Ensure environmental requirements are incorporated into operational activities and projects.

Requirements

  • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification.

  • Strong analytical, reporting and communication skills.

Electrical Technician – Mfamosing

The Electrical Technician will support the reliable operation and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation equipment within the plant, ensuring equipment availability, operational efficiency and compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the availability and reliability of electrical and instrumentation equipment.
  • Carry out predictive and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Follow the work plan established by the Lead Engineer.
  • Coordinate and supervise third-party contractors where required.
  • Support initiatives aimed at improving energy efficiency in the clinker plant and cement mills.
  • Ensure the safety of plant personnel, equipment and the environment.
  • Comply with ISO 14001 and applicable plant environmental requirements.
  • Follow personal safety, fire safety and industrial hygiene requirements in line with HBM and LAP Group standards.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain electrical and instrumentation systems to minimise equipment downtime.

Requirements

  • Trade Test 3, NABTEB or City & Guilds qualification.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a modern integrated cement plant, large-scale industry or a similar environment.
  • Hands-on experience with ABB and Siemens VFD/VSD systems.
  • Experience with medium- and low-voltage motors.
  • Knowledge of ABB switchgear.
  • Experience with 11KV/400V power distribution panels and Motor Control Centres (MCC).
  • Knowledge of industrial instrumentation and control systems within a cement manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with little or no supervision.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Process Engineer

The Process Engineer will support plant production and quality objectives by improving operational efficiency, enhancing product quality and optimising production processes while reducing operating costs.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse equipment and system performance, including specific electrical and thermal energy consumption and refractory consumption, and recommend solutions to achieve budget targets.
  • Implement tools, systems and procedures for continuous process improvement.
  • Promote the increased use of Alternative Fuels and Raw Materials (AFR).
  • Evaluate the impact of AFR on process operations and develop solutions to reduce or eliminate adverse effects.
  • Participate in the design of new systems and equipment and modifications to existing installations.
  • Conduct economic and operational feasibility studies for proposed modifications and additions.
  • Commission and de-bottleneck new installations.
  • Ensure process safety and compliance with environmental, occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and operational targets.
  • Supervise operations personnel to ensure procedures and targets are consistently applied.
  • Manage planning processes within the assigned area, including BP, PMP, FP and budget activities.
  • Monitor and optimise the operation of Expert Optimizer where installed.
  • Conduct benchmarking studies and provide conclusions and recommendations.
  • Train and coach operations personnel to develop comprehensive process knowledge across the plant.
  • Communicate activities and developments through clear verbal and written reports.
  • Execute assigned activities in line with established work plans.
  • Perform sequential interventions and follow-up activities as required.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports on completed work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, preferably Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience.
  • Good knowledge of statistical process control methods and experimental design.
  • Good knowledge of project management methods.
  • Ability to perform basic process measurements, including gas flow, temperature and gas analysis.
  • Ability to organise and conduct audits covering equipment, gas, thermal or material balance of a kiln or mill using an established model.
  • Knowledge of traditional process control tools, including raw feed calculations and QMC.
  • Ability to tune control loops and establish a correctogram.
  • Understanding of expert system strategies and applications.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with production, quality and maintenance teams.
