Renaissance is seeking an experienced Head, New Business Development (NBD) to support the General Manager, NBD in delivering the company’s strategic ambition of driving industrialisation through profitable midstream, downstream and alternative energy businesses. The role focuses on deal origination, opportunity assessment, commercial structuring, stakeholder engagement and economic analysis across gas, oil, power and decarbonisation opportunities.

Job Purpose

The Head, New Business Development will bring investment and transaction discipline to Renaissance’s new business development activities, managing deal origination, opportunity screening, maturation, commercial structuring, stakeholder engagement and financial modelling.

The role will also serve as Deputy to the General Manager, representing New Business Development in strategic meetings, governance sessions, commercial negotiations and partner engagements when required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding of export gas, domestic gas, gas utilisation, oil and condensate markets and their respective value chains.
  • Coordinate strategy execution across opportunity pipelines.
  • Drive alignment across finance, commercial, legal, technical and planning teams.
  • Support negotiations for commercial agreements, including GSAs, tolling agreements, equity participation, MoUs and partnership frameworks.
  • Identify, mature and deliver profitable and sustainable opportunities across the hydrocarbon value chain.
  • Build partnerships that generate demand for Renaissance’s hydrocarbon resources.
  • Optimise supply across export and domestic opportunities.
  • Support Renaissance’s growth in domestic and export gas markets.
  • Identify opportunities that expand the company’s business beyond upstream operations into midstream and downstream segments.
  • Support the growth and management of the midstream and downstream gas portfolio.
  • Forge strategic partnerships to maximise value across the hydrocarbon value chain.
  • Identify potential customers and assess their demand profiles.
  • Support the structuring of commercial deals and partnership frameworks.
  • Conduct commercial assessments and prepare business cases for potential equity participation, joint ventures and new midstream and downstream businesses.
  • Support early-stage investment and business development decisions.

The role will contribute to Renaissance’s midstream and downstream growth strategy by developing opportunities that extend value from upstream production into industrial applications.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Developing credible domestic and export gas opportunities outside NLNG.
  • Supporting demand creation and partner engagement.
  • Evaluating strategic investments in gas off-taking industries.
  • Contributing to the growth of domestic gas demand and downstream ventures.
  • Supporting Renaissance’s industrialisation and energy security objectives.

The role will support the development of credible and profitable off-taking businesses for 500 MMscfd of gas before 2030, including strategic investments in gas, oil and alternative energy businesses such as fertiliser, refineries, LNG and LPG plants.

Requirements

Candidates should have:

  • A University Degree in Engineering or the Sciences (B.Sc. or B.Eng.).
  • Minimum of 15 years of broad oil and gas experience.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in transaction advisory, private equity, investments, downstream or midstream, commercial or engineering roles.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience handling oil and gas commercialisation opportunities or transactions.
  • Demonstrated track record of taking opportunities from identification through commercial deal structuring, negotiation and maturation to Final Investment Decision (FID).
  • Strong understanding of Nigeria’s energy sector, gas markets, regulations and commercial frameworks.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and working with senior executives.
  • An MBA or equivalent executive education from a reputable institution is an added advantage.
  • CFA charter or progress towards one is an advantage.

  • Strong business acumen and ability to assess market dynamics and identify emerging opportunities.
  • Ability to translate strategy into practical business development activities.
  • Ability to evaluate new ventures and investment options using financial and economic analysis.
  • Ability to synthesise incomplete or evolving information into clear insights for senior executives.

Deal Origination, Structuring & Negotiation

  • Experience originating midstream and downstream opportunities.
  • Ability to develop commercial analyses and contribute to investment cases across LNG, LPG, gas-to-power, modular refining, fertiliser and condensate monetisation.
  • Understanding of deal frameworks that balance value, risk and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams through screening, due diligence and opportunity maturation.

Opportunity Maturation & Structuring

  • Lead opportunities through concept, feasibility, structuring, partner selection and investment approval stages.
  • Own the commercial and financial case for opportunities, including scenario and sensitivity analysis.
  • Structure partnership, joint venture and investment terms in collaboration with relevant internal teams.
  • Prepare investment memoranda, business cases and board papers for FID and senior governance approval.

Transaction & Financial Analysis

  • Ability to interrogate financial models and assess opportunity economics, funding structures and returns.
  • Support due diligence on prospective partners, co-investors and targets.
  • Coordinate advisory input on debt and equity structuring.
  • Track opportunities against value creation and return thresholds.

Industry & Market Expertise

  • Strong understanding of Nigeria’s gas and energy landscape.
  • Knowledge of fiscal regimes, regulatory frameworks, petroleum contracts and commercial structures.
  • Good understanding of the oil and gas value chain and opportunities across midstream and downstream segments.

Stakeholder Engagement & Influence

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage senior executives, JV partners, regulators, community representatives and technical teams.
  • Ability to influence outcomes and align diverse stakeholders behind new business initiatives.
  • Ability to represent NBD in meetings, workshops and external engagements when the General Manager is unavailable.

  • Ability to identify and support the adoption of technologies, digital tools and data-driven approaches that improve competitiveness and efficiency.
  • Awareness of global energy trends and emerging opportunities in gas monetisation, LNG, LPG, CNG, power, petrochemicals and low-carbon solutions.
