Job Summary

The Officer, Community Mobilization will oversee and provide technical support to Community Mobilizers and other staff responsible for community-based health and hygiene promotion and community mobilisation activities. The role involves planning, implementing, supervising and monitoring community mobilisation interventions across project locations.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Lead community sensitisation and mobilisation interventions through the planning and implementation of day-to-day activities, as well as monitoring and reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with International Medical Corps sector staff, including Health, Nutrition, WASH and other sector officers, to support community-based activities.
  • Guide social mobilisers in conducting community awareness sessions, including providing information on available services, community campaigns and other mobilisation activities.
  • Prepare and support outreach activities in collaboration with the International Medical Corps health team.
  • Support the organisation of services when working as part of a mobile medical unit and carry out tasks assigned by the team leader.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly work plans for social mobilisation-related activities.
  • Conduct monitoring and supervisory visits for social mobilisers working on projects using standard checklists and tools.
  • Collect, review and analyse reports from social mobilisers and provide feedback on their work and achievements.
  • Represent International Medical Corps at relevant community-based health meetings.
  • Collaborate with departments such as Monitoring and Evaluation, Finance, Logistics and Procurement to achieve planned activities.
  • Coordinate with district health department staff on community health-related activities.
  • Review project documents relating to outreach activities, including proposals and budgets, to ensure completion of activities and proper spending.
  • Contribute to the submission of weekly, biweekly, monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Coordinate review meetings for social mobilisers.
  • Work closely with the line manager to ensure the availability of IEC materials for community and social mobilisation activities.
  • Assess the capacity of social mobilisers and plan training activities together with the line manager.
  • Coordinate and supervise community mobilisation teams across all project field locations, including facilitating recruitment and monitoring work and results.
  • Provide mentorship to community mobilisation field staff and communities when required.
  • Ensure community participation includes the most crisis-affected and disadvantaged groups.
  • Facilitate the submission of community complaints to management through the Community-Based Feedback and Response Mechanism (CBFRM) in a transparent manner.
  • Act respectfully and in a culturally sensitive manner towards colleagues and community members.
  • Ensure community participation and input in health-related activities and services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • University degree in Social Sciences from an HEC-recognised institution or in a health-related field. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • At least 2 years of experience in community mobilisation and health and hygiene education services.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work under pressure, manage time and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated creativity, innovative thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Well-developed organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and under pressure.
  • Fluency in relevant local and national languages is required, with the ability to communicate in English.
