Role Context

The Operations Manager will be responsible for the overall management of operations at the Lagos Hub, ensuring the safe, efficient, timely, and cost-effective handling of shipments across dedicated network and commercial flights.

The role provides strategic direction and leadership to the LOS Hub Operations Team while developing a motivated, professional, and highly trained workforce. The successful candidate will also develop long-term operational objectives covering costs, service quality, facilities, support resources, and personnel.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate Hub operational activities to ensure the safe, timely, and cost-effective processing of express parcels and freight.
• Implement and direct quality control programmes across all operational areas.
• Drive improvements in operational processes, facilities, and capabilities by standardising work methods and maximising productivity.
• Ensure compliance with DHL corporate standards, Global Airside Safety Standards, and applicable local regulatory policies and guidelines.
• Establish and maintain reporting systems covering Hub warehouse volumes, damages, safety incidents, productivity, and other operational indicators.
• Allocate appropriate resources and staff to achieve Global and Regional objectives and targets.
• Identify training needs and development opportunities to build a highly skilled functional department.
• Manage the profitability and growth of operations within the Hub.
• Provide strategic support to the ACS business within the Clusters.
• Liaise with relevant units and government agencies, including the Network Control Group, Security, Country Operations, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Nigeria Customs, and Immigration Services.
• Optimise operational process flow and ensure facilities and equipment are properly maintained to meet business and customer requirements.
• Work with Ground Handling Agents to maintain adequate staffing levels and ensure Airside processes meet operational service standards and Global SOP requirements.
• Ensure DHL aircraft are handled in accordance with Global SOPs and that local regulatory and DHL Airside safety standards are observed at all times.
• Contribute to the strategic direction and management of Country Operations, as well as Cluster and sub-regional operational strategies and policies.
• Manage fleet and infrastructure to ensure optimum output and minimise interruptions to Hub operations.
• Maintain compliance with security and safety procedures for shipments and personnel at stations serviced by the LOS Hub.
• Promote continuous service quality improvement through a sustainable approach that achieves results without compromising respect.
• Encourage employee engagement across the Hub Operations Team.
• Promote effective coaching and training to support sustainable career development.
• Identify talent and support succession planning.
• Identify and implement projects within the LOS Hub and other gateways and facilities serviced by the Hub when required.
• Actively promote and manage the DHL brand.

Minimum Requirements

Educational Qualification

• University degree or equivalent.
• Good knowledge of Customs operations.
• Knowledge of the aviation industry.
• Good understanding of aviation and express operations applications and tools.

Experience and Knowledge

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the Express or Logistics industry.
• Proven track record of managing key operational processes.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to plan, organise, control, and manage risks.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure.
• Good knowledge of Airside operations and standards.
• Experience managing large teams.
• Good negotiation skills.
