Job Summary
The Portfolio Manager will oversee the Bank’s loan portfolio to ensure strong portfolio quality, effective repayment performance and proper management of credit risks. The role involves analysing portfolio trends, identifying emerging risks, monitoring delinquency and providing strategic insights to support sound credit and portfolio management decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee monitoring of the Bank’s loan portfolio across SME, Digital Lending, Public Sector/Deducted-at-Source and other lending segments.
- Continuously assess portfolio quality, repayment performance, delinquency and overall portfolio health.
- Analyse portfolio trends and performance indicators to identify early warning signals, emerging risks, concentration risks and deteriorating accounts.
- Recommend appropriate corrective actions based on portfolio analysis.
- Conduct vintage and cohort analysis to assess loan performance by disbursement period and identify potential underwriting quality drift.
- Supervise the preparation of accurate and timely portfolio reports, dashboards and management insights.
- Lead the review and analysis of portfolio quality metrics, including PAR, NPLs, delinquency rates, collection performance, loan ageing, write-offs and recoveries.
- Monitor loan exposures and repayment behaviour and ensure potential problem accounts are promptly identified and escalated for recovery.
- Oversee monitoring of restructured, rescheduled and forborne loans.
- Provide strategic recommendations to improve portfolio performance and asset quality.
- Work closely with Credit, Risk, Recovery, Finance, Operations and other relevant functions.
- Lead and manage the Portfolio Management team by assigning responsibilities, monitoring performance and providing coaching.
- Develop and improve portfolio monitoring processes, controls, dashboards and reporting tools.
- Investigate significant portfolio exceptions, deteriorating trends and operational issues and ensure appropriate root-cause analysis and follow-up.
- Ensure compliance with approved lending policies, internal controls, regulatory requirements and portfolio management standards.
- Support timely and accurate portfolio input into statutory and regulatory returns, including CBN prudential reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with Finance and Risk on IFRS 9/ECL staging classification and ensure portfolio data supports impairment assessment and provisioning.
- Monitor collateral and security coverage on secured lending exposures and ensure valuations remain current.
- Support portfolio planning and forecasting by providing insights on portfolio growth, risk exposure, expected performance and emerging challenges.
- Ensure the accuracy, integrity and completeness of portfolio data.
- Reconcile data between the core banking/loan management system and BI reporting outputs and work with relevant teams to resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare portfolio performance analysis, key risk trends and recommended actions for portfolio review meetings and credit/risk committees.
- Participate in portfolio review meetings and credit/risk committees and present portfolio performance, key risks, trends and recommended actions.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience.
- Professional certifications such as CIBN, CFA or ACCA will be an added advantage.
- Strong experience in loan portfolio monitoring, credit risk management and portfolio analysis.
- Ability to analyse portfolio performance indicators and identify emerging risks.
- Experience working with portfolio reporting, dashboards and data analysis.
- Good understanding of regulatory and prudential reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of IFRS 9/ECL staging and provisioning will be an advantage.
