Job Summary

The Sustainability Manager, Compliance & Reporting will oversee sustainability compliance and reporting processes across Oando Plc and its subsidiaries. The role supports the Board of Directors and other internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, ranking agencies and business partners, by ensuring alignment with the Group ESG Strategy Framework, regulatory requirements and international ESG standards.

The role will also ensure transparent, accurate and timely sustainability performance data that supports the Group’s positioning as a responsible and compliant business.

Key Responsibilities

ESG Strategy Execution and Board Advisory

  • Advise and guide the Chairman, Board of Directors and other stakeholders on ESG-related duties and responsibilities, ensuring adherence to the Group ESG Strategy Framework and relevant sustainability legislation, rules and policies.
  • Lead the execution of the Group’s ESG strategy by embedding sustainability principles in board decisions and business processes.
  • Develop and implement strategies for the interpretation and application of relevant ESG laws, regulations and policies across the Group.
  • Monitor legislative developments to ensure compliance with legal and statutory requirements in all jurisdictions where the Group operates.
  • Develop and implement strategies to achieve the company’s corporate sustainability goals while aligning initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
  • Coordinate with departments and teams to establish cross-functional alignment on ESG objectives and ensure sustainability considerations are integrated into business operations.

ESG Compliance Monitoring and Reporting

  • Design, develop and implement ESG reporting templates and dashboards aligned with the company’s sustainability strategy.
  • Monitor, track and report ESG Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in line with the Board-approved ESG Strategy.
  • Collaborate with ESG Goalholders to identify gaps and implement corrective action plans.
  • Draft and deliver detailed ESG and compliance reports, including annual sustainability reports.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of ESG-related financial reports and statutory meeting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with national and international regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Maintain the corporate ESG database and implement data quality controls and verification processes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of sustainability data.

Stakeholder Engagement and Regulatory Relations

  • Develop stakeholder engagement strategies covering shareholders, regulators, business partners and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with regulators and governance organisations.
  • Ensure the company fulfils its ESG-related obligations through proactive engagement and timely responses.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors by providing ESG data and documentation and managing the resolution of control issues identified during audits.
  • Foster a culture of sustainability and ESG compliance across the Group through policies, procedures and training.
  • Coordinate responses to ESG-related due diligence enquiries and stakeholder requests, particularly in support of corporate and funding transactions.

ESG Project and Budget Management

  • Manage project budgets and resource allocation within ESG operations.
  • Track expenditure against approved budgets and ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Support the delivery of complex, multi-stakeholder ESG projects through effective planning, progress monitoring and dependency management.
  • Coordinate ESG due diligence processes for corporate and funding transactions.
  • Consolidate cross-functional inputs and prepare comprehensive response packages within agreed timelines.
  • Track and report ESG project performance using dashboards covering milestones, risks and budget utilisation.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Divisional Manager, Sustainability/ESG or the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer.

Team Leadership and Performance Management

  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of ESG professionals by setting clear expectations and providing regular feedback.
  • Support performance management and succession planning by identifying team strengths and development areas.
  • Define clear performance goals that link individual deliverables to the Group’s ESG strategy and compliance obligations.
  • Monitor team performance using KPIs, dashboards and periodic performance reviews.
  • Foster knowledge-sharing and capacity building through regular learning sessions on emerging ESG regulations, reporting standards and industry best practices.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Qualification

  • First Degree in Law, Environmental Studies, Business Administration or a related field.

Minimum Experience

  • 12–14 years’ post-qualification experience gained in a large private company, public limited company or professional firm, with significant exposure to ESG compliance and reporting.

Proven Experience

Candidates should have proven experience in:

  • Sustainability and ESG compliance frameworks, including global standards and best practices.
  • Managing and delivering complex, multi-stakeholder projects under high-pressure situations.
  • Compliance reporting and stakeholder engagement.
  • ESG reporting using internationally recognised frameworks such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Sustainability Disclosure Standards.
  • Developing and implementing ESG or sustainability strategies within a corporate environment.
  • Engaging and influencing senior stakeholders, regulators and business partners on ESG matters.

The following will be considered an advantage:

  • Professional certification in Sustainability or ESG Reporting, such as GRI Sustainability Professional Certification or GARP’s Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR) Certification.
  • Experience in the oil and gas or energy sector.
  • Experience with ESG data platforms, sustainability software or environmental management systems.
