About the Role
Paystack’s IT Operations team is a small, high-impact platform engineering unit responsible for identity, endpoint, network and access infrastructure supporting more than 300 employees and 100+ outsourced agents across six offices.
The Senior IT Engineer will help expand the team’s engineering capacity and provide critical redundancy across Tier-1 systems. Reporting to the Head of IT, the successful candidate will help manage and maintain Paystack’s integrated IT ecosystem while executing the company’s long-term infrastructure roadmap within a highly regulated fintech environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the identity lifecycle, including SAML, OIDC, SCIM provisioning, attribute-driven RBAC and phishing-resistant authentication.
- Support and improve joiner, mover and leaver processes and automate access provisioning.
- Oversee Paystack’s macOS fleet, including automated enrolment, configuration profiles, EDR and DLP enforcement.
- Maintain device trust and ensure unmanaged or unpatched devices are restricted from accessing systems.
- Manage physical networks across six locations, including multi-WAN failover, VLAN segmentation, wireless and switching infrastructure, server rooms and carrier connectivity.
- Support the transition from legacy VPNs to Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA).
- Enforce application-level authorisation based on real-time device posture.
- Manage IT infrastructure as code using Terraform, Git-based deployment workflows and Python or Bash.
- Develop API-driven automation for IT systems and services where appropriate.
- Convert regulatory requirements into automated controls and audit evidence.
- Support compliance with ISO 27001, ISO 20000, PCI-DSS, NDPR and the CBN IT Blueprint.
- Resolve complex technical escalations involving firewalls, carriers, cloud providers and other infrastructure.
- Develop comprehensive technical documentation, specifications and procedures.
Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience in infrastructure or systems engineering, preferably within a small, high-impact team.
- Strong expertise in at least two of the following areas, with sufficient knowledge of the others to handle escalations:
Identity & Access Management
- SAML 2.0, OIDC, OAuth 2.0, SCIM 2.0, LDAP and WebAuthn/FIDO2.
- Experience building identity lifecycle automation.
Endpoint Management
- Apple MDM protocols.
- Zero-touch enrolment.
- Declarative configurations and compliance enforcement across large device fleets.
Network Engineering
- Multi-site and multi-carrier network environments.
- VLANs, complex routing and firewall policies.
- Multi-WAN failover.
- 802.1X and RADIUS.
Infrastructure as Code
- Terraform and Git workflows with peer review.
- Ability to use Python, Go or Bash to build integrations and work with REST APIs.
Additional Requirements
- Experience operating under external assessors across multiple compliance frameworks.
- Proven ability to inherit live, critical systems and improve them without disrupting existing operations.
- Strong engineering judgement, including knowing when automation is appropriate and when it is not.
- Excellent technical writing skills, with the ability to produce clear specifications, procedures and audit responses.
