About the Role
The Senior Platform Security Engineer will own the security foundation of Paystack’s shared cloud platform. The role focuses on securing Paystack’s AWS organisation, including its architecture, account structure and organisation-wide security controls.
The successful candidate will take ownership of the existing platform, improve and complete current initiatives, establish technical direction and make architectural decisions with company-wide impact. The role will also help build and shape Paystack’s Platform Security function.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and evolve security architecture and organisation-wide controls across Paystack’s multi-account AWS environment.
- Design scalable identity and access management systems, including secure self-service access management for engineering teams.
- Establish secure-by-default cloud standards and automated controls.
- Partner with DevOps and engineering teams to integrate security into infrastructure decisions from the outset.
- Strengthen security across secrets management, network controls, containers and the infrastructure supply chain.
- Ensure security logs and signals are reliably generated, structured and delivered to the Security Operations team.
- Translate regulatory and compliance requirements into practical infrastructure controls and automated audit evidence.
- Build production-quality security tooling and automation to solve recurring cloud security challenges.
- Anticipate emerging platform risks and evolve security controls as Paystack’s products, markets and infrastructure grow.
- Set technical direction and standards for Platform Security and make secure practices easy for engineering teams to adopt.
Requirements
- Deep, hands-on experience securing AWS environments at scale, including multi-account architecture, organisation-wide policies and access governance.
- Ability to design access-control systems that remain secure and manageable as organisations grow.
- Strong programming skills with the ability to build security infrastructure, automation and tooling.
- Broad experience across Platform Security, including IAM, secrets, networks, containers, infrastructure and software supply chains.
- Strong understanding of web security and the relationship between application-level risks and cloud infrastructure vulnerabilities.
- Experience improving complex live systems without unnecessarily disrupting existing operations.
- Experience operating in regulated environments and automating security controls and audit evidence across compliance frameworks.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineering teams and drive security issues through to resolution.
- High level of ownership, sound judgement and ability to remain calm under pressure.
Additional Qualifications
- Experience establishing or shaping a Platform Security function.
- Understanding of regulatory and data-protection requirements across Paystack’s markets.
- Experience working within a parent-company security programme while independently managing a regional or subsidiary environment.
- Experience owning infrastructure during security incidents.
- Experience developing security standards and reference architectures that engineering teams adopt.
