About the Role
Paystack is looking for a Senior Web Designer to help make its payments platform a delightful experience for businesses and their customers across Africa.
The successful candidate will own Paystack’s public web presence, including paystack.com, microsites, product pages and campaign landing pages. The role combines strong visual design skills with the ability to build production-ready web experiences.
The Senior Web Designer will report to the Design Studio Lead and work closely with frontend engineers on performance, systems and technical integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Own Paystack’s public web presence from concept through to production.
- Design and build microsites, product pages and campaign landing pages.
- Translate briefs, product narratives and visual direction into pixel-perfect, responsive and accessible interfaces.
- Create strong web experiences even when briefs are not fully defined.
- Develop reusable components, patterns and interaction systems to support scalable web work.
- Build with performance, accessibility and conversion in mind across devices and network conditions.
- Apply engineering judgement to creative decisions, including animation, maintainability and performance.
- Collaborate closely with frontend engineers on performance and systems integration.
- Participate in design critiques, share work early and contribute to improving the team’s design standards.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in web design or design engineering at a technology-focused, product-driven company.
- Strong understanding of typography, layout, motion and visual detail.
- Ability to implement pixel-perfect user interfaces from specifications or original concepts.
- Strong HTML and CSS skills.
- Experience working with React; TypeScript knowledge is an advantage.
- Familiarity with modern frontend tooling and Git.
- Ability to write clean, production-ready frontend code.
- Experience with web motion and interactivity using tools such as GSAP, Framer Motion, CSS animations or scroll-driven animation.
- Portfolio demonstrating interactive or motion-heavy web projects, such as microsites, WebGL experiments, CSS art or Figma plugins.
- Proficiency in Figma and ability to bridge design and development independently.
- Ability to take a brief and deliver a polished, production-ready web experience with minimal direction.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards, including WCAG.
- Understanding of cross-browser and cross-device compatibility.
- Familiarity with Webflow or similar low-code tools.
- Knowledge of SEO best practices and web analytics or conversion tracking.
- Strong product and storytelling instincts.
- Ability to make sound decisions when requirements are ambiguous.
- Experience using LLMs or AI development tools to improve design and development workflows.
Bonus Points
- Understanding of frontend performance fundamentals, including image optimisation, loading strategies and Core Web Vitals.
- Experience with Three.js, WebGL, React Three Fiber or other immersive web technologies.
- Experience building design systems, component libraries or reusable interaction patterns.
- Experience with internationalisation or localisation for multilingual websites.
