Job Description
The Host/Hostess will welcome guests, determine the size of their groups and guide them to available tables. The role involves maintaining dining area arrangements, assisting guests and ensuring that seating, menus and table settings meet the required standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome and acknowledge guests according to company standards.
- Determine the number of guests in each group and provide appropriate seating.
- Guide guests to clean and available tables and provide menus.
- Assist guests as needed throughout the dining areas.
- Move and arrange tables, chairs and place settings for guests and groups with special requirements.
- Ensure each guest has appropriate napkins, clean cutlery and other standard table items.
- Check menus to ensure they are clean, complete, updated and free of wrinkles.
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas throughout the day.
- Monitor seating availability, service, safety and guest wellbeing in dining areas.
- Follow all company and safety policies and procedures.
- Report accidents, injuries and unsafe working conditions to the manager.
- Complete required safety training and certifications.
- Maintain a clean and professional uniform and personal appearance.
- Protect confidential and proprietary information and company assets.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with guests and colleagues.
- Answer telephone calls using appropriate telephone etiquette.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues.
- Support team members in achieving common goals.
- Listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of other employees.
- Maintain required quality standards and service expectations.
- Perform other reasonable duties assigned by supervisors.
Requirements
- Secondary School Certificate or equivalent General Educational Development (GED) qualification.
- No previous related work experience is required.
- Previous experience in a food and beverage or restaurant environment is an advantage.
- No previous supervisory experience is required.
- No licence or professional certification is required.
Physical Requirements
The role requires the ability to stand, sit or walk for extended periods. The successful candidate should also be able to move, lift, carry, push, pull and position objects weighing up to 10 pounds without assistance.
