The Mechanic Supervisor will supervise and coordinate mechanical activities involving the inspection, maintenance, repair and overhaul of diesel generator sets. The role provides technical leadership to mechanics and technicians while ensuring safe operations, quality workmanship, minimal equipment downtime and reliable genset performance.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate mechanical activities during genset engine overhauling.
- Develop and implement overhaul work plans, schedules, manpower requirements and job priorities.
- Lead the dismantling, inspection, repair, replacement and reassembly of diesel generator engines.
- Supervise the inspection of cylinder heads, valves, pistons, piston rings, cylinder liners, crankshafts, bearings, connecting rods, camshafts, timing components, oil and water pumps, turbochargers and fuel injection components.
- Supervise valve setting, engine timing, injector installation and other critical adjustments.
- Ensure proper use and care of mechanical tools, lifting equipment and testing instruments.
- Ensure overhaul activities comply with OEM specifications, approved procedures, quality standards and company requirements.
- Monitor work progress to minimise equipment downtime and ensure jobs are completed on schedule.
- Provide technical guidance and support to mechanics and technicians.
- Identify mechanical faults and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
Requirements
- HND, B.Sc. or B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Relevant technical certification or professional qualification in diesel engines or generator maintenance is an advantage.
- 5–8 years of relevant mechanical maintenance experience, with significant experience in diesel generator maintenance and overhauling.
- At least 2–3 years’ experience in a supervisory or lead technician role.
- Proven experience supervising complete engine overhauls.
- Strong knowledge of complete diesel engine dismantling, inspection, repair and reassembly.
- Expertise in preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance of diesel generator sets.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults, including overheating, low oil pressure, excessive smoke, abnormal vibration or noise and poor engine performance.
- Competence in inspecting pistons, liners, bearings, crankshafts, camshafts, cylinder heads, valves, connecting rods and timing components.

The Mechanical Engineer will ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of diesel generator sets through preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, servicing and engine overhauling.
The role focuses on minimising equipment downtime, maintaining optimal genset performance, extending equipment service life and ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform complete overhauls and preventive maintenance of diesel generator sets.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and determine the root causes of engine problems.
- Dismantle engines and inspect major components for wear, damage and defects.
- Inspect and replace pistons, piston rings, liners, bearings, valves, seals, gaskets and other worn components.
- Check and measure crankshafts, camshafts, cylinder liners, pistons and bearings against manufacturer specifications.
- Carry out cylinder head servicing and valve grinding.
- Perform valve clearance adjustments and related engine repairs.
- Conduct servicing and repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Identify potential mechanical issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions.

Requirements
- Trade Test, Technical Certificate or OND in Mechanical Engineering.
