Unique Care and Support Foundation (CASFOD) is seeking a qualified Protection Assistant to support the delivery of child protection, school safety, psychosocial support, referral and safeguarding activities under its ECHO project. The successful candidate will work with children, caregivers, schools and community structures to promote safe, inclusive and dignified environments.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct regular child protection and school safety assessments to identify risks affecting children, particularly adolescent girls, children with disabilities and other vulnerable learners.
- Monitor child protection concerns and identify children at risk of abuse, neglect, exploitation, child labour, early marriage and other forms of violence.
- Identify children requiring additional protection and facilitate safe, confidential and timely referrals to appropriate child protection, health, gender-based violence (GBV) and psychosocial support services.
- Follow up on referrals in coordination with relevant service providers, ensuring children receive appropriate support while maintaining confidentiality and dignity.
- Engage parents, caregivers, local authorities, Child Protection Focal Points and School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) to promote child protection and safer learning environments.
- Promote the participation and protection of girls, boys and children with disabilities by identifying barriers to education and protection services and supporting inclusive activities.
- Work with school Child Protection Focal Points to strengthen their capacity to identify protection concerns, provide basic psychosocial support and refer children requiring specialised services.
- Facilitate psychosocial support (PSS) activities, including group sessions, storytelling, recreational activities and life skills sessions.
- Support accessible, child-friendly and confidential Complaints and Feedback Mechanisms (CFM) for children and community members to report protection concerns safely.
- Assist schools in developing and implementing safety plans, conducting safety assessments, mapping unsafe routes and identifying measures to protect children from violence and other threats.
- Collaborate with humanitarian partners, the Protection Sector Working Group (PSWG) and other stakeholders to strengthen child protection systems, emergency preparedness and responses to emerging risks.
- Support training for teachers, community structures and other stakeholders on child protection, GBV, safeguarding, Prevention of Sexual Harassment, Exploitation and Abuse (PSHEA), positive discipline and referral pathways.
- Collect and submit accurate activity reports, referral updates, assessment findings and monitoring data while ensuring sensitive information is securely managed.
- Perform other project-related duties assigned by the supervisor in line with the organisation’s objectives.
Qualifications and Skills
- A bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Social Work, Law, Psychology, Sociology, International Development, Human Rights or a related social science field.
- Alternatively, a relevant diploma with substantial direct field experience in humanitarian protection, child protection or GBV programming.
- One to three years of practical experience in humanitarian protection, community-based protection, GBV response or child protection in emergency settings.
- Demonstrated experience in protection monitoring, vulnerability assessments, referral tracking and case management intake.
- Experience conducting community awareness sessions, organising Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and establishing or supporting Protection Action Committees (PACs).
- Experience coordinating with local authorities, community leaders and protection cluster partners on referral pathways.
