Job Summary
The Reliability and Performance Engineer (Mechanical) will apply risk-based reliability processes to support decision-making and improve the reliability, performance and commercial health of power generation assets.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in assessing and managing technical and operational risks.
- Help define and manage risk management processes and procedures.
- Identify and assess risks arising from power generation activities.
- Identify improvements required in working practices and procedures.
- Monitor the progress and impact of improvement actions.
- Plan and implement improvements to asset management processes.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of process improvements.
- Assess asset condition and performance against asset management strategies and objectives.
- Analyse the impact and effectiveness of asset performance corrective actions.
- Identify lessons learned and update policies and procedures accordingly.
- Identify and monitor legal, regulatory and technical requirements for safe plant operation.
- Develop and support policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
- Investigate root causes of asset, system and equipment failures or incidents.
- Develop reports on risk and opportunity status for management.
- Develop and manage risk management plans in line with company standards.
- Highlight potential impacts on plant performance and earning capability.
- Conduct research, reviews, studies and analysis in support of risk management projects.
- Conduct engineering risk evaluations of existing infrastructure.
- Assess risks associated with equipment failures, human errors and environmental events.
- Analyse process risk mitigation, technology adoption and human factors.
- Develop and drive technical risk management plans addressing reliability and safety risks.
- Identify engineering solutions to recurring failures and equipment problems affecting capacity, quality, safety or regulatory compliance.
- Develop and maintain a repository of technical risk assessments to support strategic decision-making.
- Assess technical human-capital risks, including plant knowledge, manpower and training gaps.
- Conduct Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA).
- Evaluate the reliability potential of alternative engineering designs and solutions.
Data Privacy and QHSE
- Implement Egbin Power Plc’s data protection policies and practices.
- Ensure compliance with NDPR and other applicable data protection laws.
- Undertake Data Protection Impact Assessments where applicable.
- Promote awareness and application of QHSE policies and departmental objectives.
- Support awareness and application of the Integrated Management System, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018.
- Identify hazards, risks, environmental aspects and impacts related to assigned duties.
Accountabilities
- Participate in developing and continuously updating technical risk registers.
- Contribute to the Technical Risk and Reliability Management Framework (TRRMF).
- Participate in technical risk assessments for critical assets.
- Contribute to developing risk management standards.
- Participate in documenting lessons learned and After-Action Reviews (AAR).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in power utilities, hydrocarbon exploration and production or another asset-intensive industry, including at least 5 years in Risk and Reliability Engineering.
- Knowledge of Risk and Reliability Management (RRIM).
- Independent certification or training from an accredited body in Risk and Reliability Engineering, such as CMRP or IRM.
- Knowledge of at least two of the following areas: Maintenance, Operations, Design Engineering, Asset Integrity or Technical Assurance.
- Understanding of basic power generation principles.
- Knowledge of relevant industry, plant, equipment, technical, safety and personnel terminology.
- Understanding of how systems interrelate and affect plant operations.
- Ability to identify equipment abnormalities and deviations.
- Ability to identify and report unsafe or non-compliant conditions.
- Ability to accurately take measurements and readings.
- Knowledge of relevant safety standards, regulations and procedures.
Key Performance Indicators
- Development and continuous updating of technical risk registers.
- Contribution to the Technical Risk and Reliability Management Framework.
- Promotion of a risk-based culture in organisational decision-making.
