Fixed Asset Accountant & Receivable Analyst

Job Description

Egbin Power Plc. is seeking a Fixed Asset Accountant & Receivable Analyst to coordinate the efficient management and maintenance of the company’s fixed asset portfolio and oversee its accounts receivable function.

The successful candidate will ensure accurate recording, tracking and reporting of non-current assets in line with IFRS and organisational accounting policies. The role will also involve ensuring timely customer payments, accurate invoicing and effective resolution of billing or payment disputes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Record the cost of newly acquired tangible and intangible non-current assets, track existing assets, calculate depreciation and account for asset disposals.
  • Identify innovative ways to structure assets to maximise available tax benefits.
  • Track and review non-current asset additions against approved budgets and authorisations.
  • Develop and monitor controls, procedures and forms for registering and recording non-current assets.
  • Assign tag numbers to company non-current assets.
  • Reconcile the asset ledger balance with the corresponding summary-level account in the general ledger.
  • Calculate depreciation for all plant non-current assets.
  • Review and update detailed asset and accumulated depreciation schedules.
  • Conduct periodic physical inventory counts of all non-current assets.
  • Track plant expenditure on non-current assets against the capital budget and management authorisations.
  • Manage asset disposals in line with the company’s asset disposal policy.
  • Collect customer payments and ensure they are received on time.
  • Prepare accounts receivable reports on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Process and organise bills, records and invoices while ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Negotiate and resolve non-payment disputes with customers efficiently.
  • Stay informed about industry best practices and maintain the billing system.
  • Generate invoices and account statements and perform account reconciliations.
  • Provide reliable, reconciled asset and receivable data and reports to support management decision-making, statutory audits, tax planning and capital budgeting.

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related discipline.
  • Relevant professional certification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CFA.
  • Minimum of five years’ relevant work experience.

Skills and Competencies

  • Good understanding of trends, challenges, opportunities, regulations and legislation relating to the power industry.
  • Good knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), local and international accounting standards, fixed asset reporting, depreciation and amortisation, asset revaluation and valuation, local accounting regulations, and cost and financial accounting.
  • Working knowledge of accounting packages and systems, including standard ERP software.
  • Very good communication skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • High ethical standards and integrity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
