About The African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET)
The African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) is a not-for-profit networking and service alliance of Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programmes (FE(L)TPs) and other applied epidemiology training programmes across Africa. Established in 2005, the organisation works with ministries of health and national, regional and international partners to improve public health outcomes.
AFENET focuses on strengthening public health systems by building sustainable epidemiology and disease surveillance capacity. Its work supports the implementation of the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) strategy and the International Health Regulations (IHR), helping countries improve their preparedness for and response to public health threats. With a growing network of partners, including government agencies, academic institutions, international organisations, philanthropies and non-governmental organisations, AFENET has expanded its reach across the continent. The network currently comprises 40 FE(L)TP member programmes and continues to advance global health security through collaboration and capacity development.
